China International Semiconductor Executive Summit is the world’s foremost annual meeting and business platform for engaging with political, business, financial, research and industry leaders of the semiconductor manufacturing industry, it will be held on 5-6 September 2019, Shanghai, China.

Jennifer Zhao was invited as visionary speaker at CISES 2019 to give a keynote speech with the topic ams sensor innovation in a changing global smartphone market.

With the global smartphone market having experienced its first full-year YoY shipment decline in 2018 and now faced with a saturated market and increasingly fierce competition, the leading handset manufacturers are aggressively looking to differentiate their products with consumers in order to grow market share. Industrial design trends are now driving all handsets towards 100% screen-to-body ratio while mobile photography is demanding improved camera performance and functionality. As the industry’s leading supplier of optical sensor solutions to the smartphone market, ams innovations now enable optical sensors to operate behind organic light-emitting displays (OLED) that support display brightness control. Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensors support 3D face recognition by providing high accuracy distance measurement and provide laser detect autofocus (LDAF) capabilities to the back-side camera for fast and accurate distance measurement to the object in sunlight environments. Future ToF sensors that will support new use cases for augmented reality (AR) are also planned. For the world-facing (backside) camera, true-color sensors deliver highly-accurate color measurements and support flicker detection to enhance automatic white-balance (AWB) algorithm results which produce artifact-free images in mixed lighting environments. ams continues to invest in sensor innovation to address the need for this fast-paced mobile market segment with strategic customers.
