ams awarded as Xiaomi’s most innovative supplier for the third time
ams’ highly innovative solutions help make Xiaomi’s amazing products accessible to all
18 February 2019, Shanghai, China -- ams (SIX: AMS), a world leading supplier of high performance sensor solutions, announced today that it has been accoladed as Xiaomi’s most innovative supplier for the third time. This win helps highlight the company’s role as an innovation leader for the mobile phone solutions.
Xiaomi presented the award during their 2018 Xiaomi Global Core Suppliers Conference which awards suppliers for outstanding performance in innovating management, technologies and applications.
ams has been one of Xiaomi’s core component suppliers since 2014, and advanced optical sensor solutions from ams have laid a strong technological foundation for many of its trendsetting smartphones. As one of the world leading smartphone brands, Xiaomi has always brought innovation to their customers. It is also an industry forerunner that relentlessly pursues the highest standards of display management and industrial design.
Through continuous innovation, ams has developed advanced optical sensors which enable higher performance in smaller package sizes and feature sophisticated optical stack assemblies. This helps ams meet Xiaomi’s stringent industrial design criteria.
ams optical components play important roles in Xiaomi’s latest smartphone models. The Mi 8 Pro includes a face recognition system which uses infrared (IR) vertical cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) arrays from ams. The PMSIL is a complete VCSEL flood illuminator system with integrated eye-safety interlock, offering very high optical efficiency and minimizing the drain on the phone’s battery when emitting.
ams’ ambient light sensor module is also used by Xiaomi’s flagships, Mi 8 Pro and Mi 8 Lite, while Mi 8 is equipped with the IR proximity module, which offers optimized display-management capabilities. Mi MIX 3, Xiaomi’s latest premium flagship, is built with a full sliding screen, an attractive feature only made possible through the world’s thinnest and smallest ambient light sensor from ams. In addition, ams’ product portfolio also includes a variety of products suitable for display management applications in smartphones with a high screen-to-body ratio. These include a sensor which operates from behind an OLED display (the TCS3701) and a sensor which fits in the smallest bezel area (the TMD3702).
In addition, ams offers comprehensive sensing solutions for smartphone camera photo and video enhancement. ams’ recently released TCS3707 colour sensor offers picture and video enhancement features such as light flickering detection at frequencies up to 500Hz as well as Automatic White Balance (AWB) assistance.
The TMF8701 1D Time of Flight (ToF) sensor, the world’s smallest integrated distance measurement and proximity-sensing module, gives excellent rejection of fingerprint contamination, and of optical reflections. The Class 1 Eye Safe VCSEL emitter has excellent immunity to interference from ambient light and produces accurate distance measurement in all lighting conditions, even in bright sunlight (100klux).
“We feel honoured to be awarded Xiaomi’s innovation award for the third time. This clearly demonstrates ams’ ability to help our clients achieve product differentiation by providing world class solutions,” says Pinglu Chen, ams’ Vice-President for Greater China. “ams will ride the wave of digital transformation and conduct much deeper collaboration with clients across more fields. It will provide high quality, differentiated, high value products and solutions for clients, creating a mutually beneficial future,” he says.
People’s universal pursuit to live a smart life has led to the prevalence of sensor usage. ams has always focused on providing a highly-attractive series of breakthrough smart sensor solutions to the telecommunications, consumer electronics and computing, automobile, industrial and medical sectors. These solutions have accelerated the development of a smart society and include optics, imaging and audio.
