Graz is nothing like what I had imagined . . . it's a city not yet commercialized, with still so much green everywhere. I find it so much easier to commute within the city since the public transportation system is well laid out. Plus the social security system is excellent.

Graz - the secret love

Graz is a successful combination of Mediterranean flair and Austrian informality.

A picturesque old town, with a vibrant cultural and social life including opera, theatre, open-air jazz festivals and much, much more, Graz was the European Capital of Culture in 2003. All this, combined with a broad student and university scene, makes Graz a truly charming city with very high quality of life.

How to live in Graz?

Styria - the green 'heart of austria'

Styria is located in the centre of Europe (2 hrs. to Vienna, 3 hrs. to Salzburg, 4 hrs. to Venice) and offers a wealth of different landscapes within 45 min. by car. To the south and south-west, you will find a region called 'Styrian Tuscany' with wonderful wines and outstandingly beautiful countryside. To the north, the gorgeous high alpine mountains invite you to hike, climb and ski. To the east, a region with some of the most beautiful spas in Europe can be found. Whether you prefer sports and outdoor activities (skiing, hiking, golfing, rafting, paragliding…), culinary pleasures (the Styrian wines are absolutely first-class), or are interested in culture (the Styriarte is a festival created by Nikolaus Harnoncourt - a Styrian) everything is possible. And affordable, too.
